Prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions are quick and simple to order online through MWI Pet, the same way you would book an appointment.

Written Prescriptions

You may obtain Prescription Only Medicines, Category V, (POM-V) from your veterinary surgeon or ask for a written prescription and obtain the medicines from another veterinary surgeon or a pharmacy. A fee is charged for each individual drug’s written prescription. Please contact the surgery for up to date prices.

Your veterinary surgeon may prescribe POM-V products only following a clinical assessment of an animal under their care.

A prescription may not be appropriate if your animal is an in-patient or immediate treatment is necessary.

You will be informed, on request, of the price of any medication that may be prescribed for your animal.

If purchasing medication from an online retailer, we recommend making sure they are Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) approved. A list of accredited retailers can be found at: https://www.vmd.defra.gov.uk/InternetRetailers/accredited-retailers.aspx

Repeat Prescriptions

POM-Vs can only be dispensed or prescribed to patients under our care. Consequently, we need to re-assess all patients requiring repeat prescriptions at least every 6 months, but this period may be shorter due to individual medical circumstances. Please contact the surgery for the up to date price for this repeat prescription consultation.

When ordering repeat prescription medications, we request at least 48 hours’ notice, but this can increase up to 72 hours depending on the day requested and bank holidays. Please provide as much information as possible to the team when requesting repeat prescription medications.
